$1.5 Million Raised for Charity with WFT

GCO Managing Partner Scott Davidson delivered the keynote address at The Washington Football Team’s 58th Annual Welcome Home Luncheon. The event serves as the team’s major annual fundraiser for charity.

With GCO as presenting sponsor, the 57th and 58th annual installments raised more than $1.5 million to benefit children’s charities.

Davidson told those in attendance and watching from home about his recent experience working with the NFL team to help a young, terminally ill fan take the field at spring training camp.

The 12-year-old met his heroes up close and watched practice from the sidelines thanks to what Davidson called “selfless sacrifice.” Charitable foundation staff raced to make arrangements in the wake of a grim downturn in the 13 year old’s diagnosis. GCO’s events director drove 12 hours in a van equipped with a wheelchair lift. A team of umbrella wielding volunteers shielded the boy from rain as he watched practice from the sideline in his wheelchair. Team alum Ken Harvey kept him company. And after a long and wet practice, players and coaches patiently waited to meet with the young fan. Davidson said the story exemplifies the sort of selfless service that’s a cornerstone of the team’s charitable foundation.
